Slated Barn Garage and Newbarn are proud to sponsor the Pagham Pram Race held on Boxing Day.

The race has been running for over 60 years. In 1946 a group of demobbed servicemen decided they would race around Pagham stopping at each of the village pubs for a pint, with one pushing a pram and another sitting inside dressed up as a baby!  The prize for the winner? – A Christmas cake!!

Since then the Pagham Pram Race runs every year on Boxing Day, whatever the weather, starting at the Mill on Pagham Road and passing The Bear, The Lamb and The Kings Beach Hotel, and finishing in the The Lamb car park.  We usually have around 50 entries and between 2,000-3,000 spectators line the route which covers a 3 mile course around Pagham.

Over time the race has gone global!  We have had entrants from Switzerland, the USA and even Australia!!   

Fancy dress entries have included characters being portrayed from Little Britain, The Chronicles of Narnia, and even the Portsmouth Spinnaker Tower!  

Over the years thousands of pounds have been raised for local charities from the raffle, contestants’ entry fees, and donations from the thousands of public who line the route.  

Once the race is over entrants gather outside The Lamb Public House and are presented with prizes for the various categories by the President, Derek Bell MBE.  

It’s certainly a fun way to spend an hour or two in the fresh air on Boxing Day, so if you’re tired of eating turkey sandwiches and playing Monopoly why not join in the fun?!
